Is Shark Diving Dangerous?
White sharks have many myths surrounding them. One is that they are killing
machines attacking anything in sight. We have found that even at the height
of a feeding event with multiple animals around a carcass, white sharks
prove to be shy, slow moving animals. Our divers are amazed to learn first
hand that these animals are almost gentle. That said, divers should always
maintain a healthy respect for these awesome predators, in and out of
the water!
Do I need to be a Certified Diver?
You do not need to be dive certified to enjoy an incredible great white
shark adventure, but this adventure is best for those who have had some
snorkeling or underwater experience. Our boat is equipped with a Brownie’s
Third Lung hookah system, which allows participants to connect to
an air source onboard. This eliminates the need to wear air tanks, which
would restrict your movement within the cage. Those uncomfortable underwater
can join our adventure as a topside observer and watch shark action from
the deck or on our big screen TV.
An online
course in hookah diving is available. We highly recommend it to anyone
who is not experienced underwater.
Adventure Location
Dives take place in The
Gulf of the Farallons National Marine Sanctuary. Located just off
the coast of San Francisco, the Farallon Islands are considered one of
the top places in the world to view great white sharks. Participants regularly
see 15-20 ft sharks.
Dive Season
Dives are offered on a select number of Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and
Mondays, mid-September through November. Contact us to check availability.
Price
$875 for cage diving
$375 for topside viewing

Shark Guarantee
We cannot guarantee you will see great white sharks. We will take you
to the best viewing spots during the best time of year, but nature can
be unpredictable. If you do not see sharks, there is no refund. If space
permits, we’ll allow you to join a future trip as a topside, non-diving
participant.
Diver Requirements
No dive certification is required if you are over the age of 18. Anyone
under the age of 18 must be dive certified and accompanied by a parent
or guardian. Topside viewing is open to anyone age 10 or older who is
accompanied by a responsible adult.
Equipment Required
We will provide you with a wet/dry suit to wear during your cage dive
or you may bring your own. You will receive a suggested packing list for
your day at sea prior to your adventure. Please know that seas can be
rough and the waters near the Farallons are known for being cold and murky.

Angel Island-Tiburon Ferry Company and Ocean Outreach
Angel Island-Tiburon Ferry Company
Maggie (McDonogh) Pacheco’s family started the ferry service between Tiburon,
California and Angel Island back in 1959. She grew up on the water and
knows and respects the area around San Francisco as only a native can.
She runs the company with her husband Paul, an experienced diver and mariner
with over two decades of experience on area waters. Paul’s vast knowledge
of great whites, whales and other marine life within the Farallones National
Marine Sanctuary makes him the perfect guy to introduce you to big sharks
in the wild. Today, the Angel
Island-Tiburon Ferry Company operates three vessels. In addition to
the ferry service, they offer a variety of custom charters and nature
expeditions, including shark and whale watching trips.
Ocean Outreach, Inc.
Ocean Outreach,
Inc. is a 501 C-3 non-profit organization founded in April 2002, by
the Taylor brothers: explorer/ naturalist Tim, entrepreneur/businessman
Dan, and Air Force Lt. Colonel Andrew. It aims to create educational outreach
projects and support ongoing scientific research. Many of these programs
have evolved from the work currently established by Tim Taylor and Research
Vessel Tiburon Inc. Ocean Outreach understands the desire and recognizes
the ability of people to affect change in their world. By giving our shark
expedition participants knowledge, tools and first hand experience, we
provide a structure in which they may act as agents of this change to
spread awareness about environmental issues, cultural projects and their
connection to the ocean's ecosystem and our heritage. In this manner we
foster an awareness we hope will find its way to the forefront of our
national conscience.
